Romeoville I&M Canal

Facing South or downstream towards Lockport:

The concrete barrier at the bottom of the picture is because the pedestrian crossing is on the north side of the bridge.

Facing North or upstream:


The reason I took this picture on an angle with respect to the canal is to get a better view of the limestone bridge abutment in the lower-right quadrant.


I don't think this was an abutment for the old swing bridge that is now preserved as a trail bridge near the west end of the 135th street bridge because we are too far from the canal. Instead, this may be for another bridge that was part of the old alignment of 135th street that used that bridge. Note that in Romeoville, as well as Lemon, you are more likely to see limestone walls than concrete walls.
