Road Bridge over Southern RR and French Broad River at Del Rio, TN

(Bridge HunterSatellite)

Built 1926-38, rebuilt 2011-14. Bridge Hunter includes photos of the rebuild. I'm impressed that Tennessee rebuilt it as an similar looking concrete arch span bridge including "painting" it white. Illinois would probably have just done yet another steel girder bridge across the river.

It's springtime, and the French Broad River near Del Rio TN is swollen and muddy, as a Southern Railway manifest train makes its way eastward between the rain showers in April, 1974. Photo by Mark Hinsdale
I found the Bridge Hunter link so I could find photos with a more normal river level to compare with the level in Mark's photo. An example is below. More of the pier was covered in Mark's photo. But I think the river was relatively high in this photo because I don't see any exposed ground in the river.

Calvin Sneed's May 2010 and Aug 2014 photos show about the same level as Hanchey's photos. Andrew Penik's Jun 2017 photos also show about the same level. These levels are probably consistent with the Google image showing the river covering its bottom. But the Bing image shows a lower river level that exposes some of the bottom.
